The Ratcha is one of the main regions of the Caucasus mountains of Georgia, and extends across the valley Top Rioni and its tributaries. The main river of western Georgia, linked to the myth of Jason and the Golden Fleece, takes its source.
Rich in mineral water, and holding some of the religious monuments of Georgia's most important and Cathedral Nikortsminda (or even the surprising Oni synagogue, a pride of largest Jewish communities in the Caucasus), the Ratcha was a very touristic region in Soviet times, with resorts such as altitude and Outs and Choví. She has lost none of its potential, but the decay of its infrastructure and economic depression related to the collapse of the Soviet Union has virtually stopped the tourism.
The emigration is particularly strong in the region, many villages are almost empty during the winter months, its people seeking better conditions Tbilisi or abroad.
In 1991, a very violent earthquake struck the region, destroying many buildings, many of whom have never really been rehabilitated until TODAY 'hui. Even politically, it is relatively Ratcha left behind and it does not benefit from development programs like neighboring Svaneti, its roads are still in poor condition, and "Ratchvélis" complain that President Saakashvili has never carried out visit!
The travel also do not have the "quaint" or towers Svaneti Touchette, or villages "pagans" and "archaic" by Khevsourétie nor easy access to mountains Khévie the Ratcha is relatively ignored. Its waters, forests and walls no less impressive than elsewhere in the Caucasus (the circus is spectacular Choví) are yet so many assets that could make a foreground region, especially as it is safe quiet and peaceful.
strange neglect because Ratcha is probably the most "Georgia" in the Greater Caucasus, and one of the most stable, with no ethnic unrest or crime. Moreover, it is sung as one of the most founders of the Georgian nation. His wine in the District of Ambrolaouri, is the most famous of Georgia after that of Kakheti, and also constitutes the only real source of income for the region.
During this situation: the Ratcha remained very rural, almost untouched by modern construction and has a fascinating nature and wildlife, landscapes and smiling a quiet mountain culture, as many attractions for visitors ...
